Applications
Welding of heat-treated in grain structural steels, e.g. N-A-XTRA70, T1, T1A, T1B, HSB 77V, etc.
Characteristics
N-11018G is a basic coated, extra low hydrogen type stick electrode for the welding of high strength fine grain structural steels requiring high strength and toughness. The weld metal exhibits high strength accompanied by good sub-zero toughness values which make it deal for applications where resistance to fracture is required under impact conditions at low temperatures. Electrodes up to 3.2 mm ø exhibit good arc stability and are therefore ideally suited for root pass and positional welding. They produce excellent weld bead appearance, low spatter loss and easy slag removal.
Notes on usage
(1) Dry the electrodes at 350°C-400°C for about one hour before use and store the electrodes at 100-150°C after drying them with attention to keep away from moisture.
(2) Adopt back step method or strike the arc on a small steel plate prepared for this particular purpose because arc striking on base metal is in danger of initiating cracking.
(3) Keep the arc as short as possible.
(4) Preheat at 100°C -150°C.
The temperature to be applied varies in accordance with plate thickness and steel kind of steel to be welded.
(5) Pay attention not to exceed proper heat-input because excessive heat-input causes deterioration of impact values and yield strength of weld metal.
