Low-hydrogen electrode for high-temperature resistant surfacings exposed to compression and abrasion. The deposit is machinable.
Application field
On the strength of its toughness, toughness and high-temperature resistance, VHF-73G4 is employed for surfacing on machine components exposed to impact, compression and abrasion at operating temperatures up to 1020ºF(550ºC). Accordingly, VHF-73G4 is particularly suited for building-up dies. It can also be used to good effect for surfacing rollers, drive clover leaves, hot shear blades etc.
VHF-73G4 is also employed for the economic manufacture or these workpieces. As parent metal a carrier steel with tensile strength in excess of 144,000 psi (1,000 N/mm2) is recommended.
Welding properties
The electrode welds in the horizontal or slightly rising positions. The weld pool is easy to control and the slag is easily removed.
Welding instructions
Preheat the workpiece to 480 - 570ºF (250 - 300ºC). Guide the electrode as vertically as possible, with medium-long arc. Let the workpiece cool slowly under asbestos. Finish by grinding.
